Universal Binary Build available now for Mac OS X
Submitted by EgS on Tue, 02/26/2008 - 14:28I just switched to universal binaries, so the Mac Client will be able to run on PPC Macs as well as on the new intel ones. Get it in the "Get Quassel!" section or right here.
Currently there is only the Client build. If you're interessted in precompiled Mac builds for the Quassel Core or the Monolithic Quassel, then please let me know.
I've heard Quassel Core is multi user capable? How do I make use of that?
Submitted by EgS on Sat, 02/23/2008 - 13:10Yes, Quassel Core can handle multiple users, but we don't have an UI for that yet.
You will find a python script, manageusers.py, in the scripts/ directory. This allows you to add new accounts to the core's database and change passwords for existing ones.
What happened to QuasselTopia (or Quassel Mobile Edition)?
Submitted by Sputnick on Thu, 02/21/2008 - 17:48We don't currently have the manpower to maintain both the desktop and the embedded version, and the old QuasselTopia didn't keep track with the rest of the codebase. Also, recent development in the mobile space seem to suggest that the focus shifts from Qtopia (or Qt/Extended) towards Qt/WinCE and Qt/X11, both of which offer the standard Qt API. We will work on making Quassel suitable for small form factors in due time, because we do have some shiny mobile devices generously sponsored by Nokia, and we do want to use Quassel on them ourselves :)
Quassel IRC is released!
Submitted by Sputnick on Thu, 02/21/2008 - 17:26It is finally here - quassel-0.2.0-alpha1, Quassel's long-awaited first public release! This is still an alpha version, so it still has some quirks, and it still lacks some features that may or may not be important for you. That said, we (the devs) have been using it as our main client for weeks now, and we are fairly happy with it, so it can't hurt to give it a try!
Only this release sets your computer on fire, eats your dog and is probably highly addictive.
I have a feature request that is rather uncommon in other clients!
Submitted by Sputnick on Thu, 02/21/2008 - 17:11Then by all means, report it! We are always thankful for ideas, and if your feature request makes sense, we will probably implement it at some time.
Quassel is missing a feature all other IRC clients have!
Submitted by Sputnick on Thu, 02/21/2008 - 17:08Well, in this case, chances are that we already know about it. All devs have been using IRC for a long time, we all have tried several IRC clients, so we know what they can do - and if it's a usable feature, we probably want to have it in Quassel as well. So most probably, the feature you want will creep into Quassel at some time.
How stable/usable is Quassel IRC?
Submitted by Sputnick on Thu, 02/21/2008 - 17:05Well, depends on what you ask from your chat client. First of all, all the devs use Quassel IRC as their main clients and have been doing that for a while. We all share one Quassel Core, so that component is getting quite a stress testing...
Quassel Core has been rock stable for us for a while, and we have ironed out most Client crashes recently. So yes, Quassel IRC is certainly stable enough to be usable, at least on our systems. If it isn't for you, please report bugs, so we can fix it :)
Slick Quassel on Mac
Submitted by Sputnick on Fri, 02/15/2008 - 14:23Quassel On The Road!
Submitted by Sputnick on Tue, 02/12/2008 - 01:51Yep, I'll be there, probably partying with the Gentoo or Amarok people. We also plan to finally release Quassel to the public on FOSDEM. So if you like to learn more about Quassel or even see it in action, FOSDEM is your chance :)

Home Stretch
Submitted by Sputnick on Fri, 02/08/2008 - 10:40Well, EgS speaking of 50 commits in January until the 17th. Turned out to be 125 commits until the end of the month, and another 55 commits in the eight days of February already... development speed is increasing, and we can now see the light at the end of the tunnel (and it's not a train coming at us). We are fighting some stability issues and we still need to fix a couple of things, but we are now very confident that we can release Quassel within the month!
